The problems and the people standing in your and your customers way
While the lessons shown above may sound like blatant appeals to contractor greed, they are not. Earning what you are really worth simply means getting paid what you should be paid for your work in a free market that is unencumbered by the unethical and immoral dictates and controls of those who seek to prevent that from happening. The “how to legitimately increase your per job total pricing by 200%, 300%, or more” is not an encouragement for you to overcharge your insured customers on their insurance covered property damage claims. It is however, an encouragement to you and all contractors to learn how to overcome the underpayment attempts of P&C insurance companies that are, in far too many cases, 200%, 300%, or more, below what the insured’s should be paid by their P&C insurance companies on their legitimate property damage claims.
Because of UPPA in particular, as well as other questionable tactics employed by the P&C insurance industry to under pay and deny legitimate claims payments to their insured customers, contractors are no longer able to advocate on behalf of their insured customers or negotiate the free market price of their property damage repairs. Instead, often at great additional cost, insured’s are now forced to hire additional help in the form of a public adjuster, appraiser, or attorney to help them achieve the goal of fair and full claims payments. With this training, contractors are taught how to overcome the above hurdles by directing their insured customers to third party educational materials that will help them to move their own claims forward to fair and full payment without additional expense.
Since the introduction of UPPA in 2010, the storm damage restoration industry has gone through a number of changes that have dramatically and negatively affected the industry. Because of UPPA and the continued use of the P&C insurance industry controlled Xactimate repair pricing program, what was once a free market, has become a quasi-forced market that is controlled by the P&C insurance industry.
In the past, P&C insurance operated as a semi-public trust that did, for the most part, honor the promises they made to their insured policyholder customers. Today however, as evidenced through the 60 MINUTES YouTube video below, they operate more as an organization whose primary mission is to maximize profits by paying out as little as possible on their insured policyholders legitimate claims. Know that, although Florida hurricane claim problems are the primary focus of the 60 MINUTES video below, the problems discussed are also occurring all across the country and involve property & casualty insurance companies from the smallest to the largest.

By repeatedly altering, under scoping, and denying payment for legitimate covered damage, directly employed and third party contracted insurance company desk adjusters who make the final claims payment decisions, leave too trusting insured policyholders underpaid and unpaid on their claims by hundreds of millions to billions of dollars every year. This then means that storm damage restoration contractors are not able to order the hundreds of millions to billions of dollars worth of roofing and related building products needed to complete all of the legitimate repairs that should have been approved but never were. Insured policyholders who have already suffered through a storm or other disaster are forced to suffer a second time, financially and otherwise, as a result of their insurance company’s greed. The hundreds of millions of dollars worth of proper and fair free market profits and income that should have been earned by storm damage restoration contractors as well as their building product distributors are also never realized.

Here’s why…
Beginning around 2006, restoration contractors started buying into the aggressively promoted P&C insurance industry propaganda that there was an advantage to restoration contractors in using the same property damage repair estimation program that P&C insurance paid for and demands that their adjusters use to estimate insurance covered repair work. The big sell? By writing then submitting their insured customers repair estimates on the same estimating program as the insurance company adjusters, restoration contractors would be better able to arrive at an agreeable total repair price.
The big tell? The problem with that is the fact that once insurance company independent and desk adjusters, many who had likely learned how to do their job from reading through their employers McKinsey & Company inspired how to pay claims manual and, in many cases, don’t know the difference between a hail hit and a bird dropping would, on receipt, in following their employers orders, begin the process of slicing and dicing the contractors legitimate repair estimate line items and pricing into pieces. Although the contractors pricing was free market based and proper, the pricing that the insurance company adjusters were offering was not and is not. Instead, it was and, in most cases, continues to be, low ball pricing that is inaccurately presented as true and accurate survey based current market pricing for the area.
So, why are thousands of restoration contractors from across the country still allowing P&C insurance to control their businesses by using the so-called “industry standard” repair estimating program to estimate the cost of their insured customers property damage repair claims – when there is no good reason for doing so? Until now, they were not aware that there is a superior and proven but simple and easy to use contractor favored repair estimating alternative that makes those outmoded lowballing P&C insurance adjuster mandated “industry standard” estimating programs no longer relevant. The key to the achieving real, true, and accurate (RTA) free market pricing?

From the graph above – the average 3RStimax© per job increase above insurance desk adjusters final offers was equal to $28,244.86 = to, on average, an increase of over 270% per job! Also notice in the graph on the right how, using 3RStimax© to properly calculate the GC O&P, the GC O&P total shown on the claim came to $23,146.63 = to $8,262.54 more than when calculated at the P&C insurance made up and so-called “industry standard” rate of “10% & 10%” ($14,884.09). Also notice that none of the jobs shown required PA involvement thereby saving the contractor over $27,000 in PA fee’s that would otherwise have been subtracted from the contractors profits.

P&C insurance cannot mandate that contractors use XM8 or Symbility and there is no advantage in doing so – except to the insurance companies that mandate that their insurance adjusters use one or the other. Insurance company paid adjusters don’t “prescribe” what repairs are needed, the contractor, who is the expert, “describes” what repairs are needed.
